How do I import my shopping list into HandyShopper?
- Open your shopping list in Connoisseur and click on "Export to HandyShopper".
- Enter a name for your shopping list, making sure it is unique so you don't confuse it with previous lists (e.g. "Groceries 1/27/05"). Pick a location to save your shopping list to, then hit "Save". The list will be saved as a .txt file.
- Open the file and select all the text. Copy it.
- Open Entourage (X or 2004) (you can also use Palm Desktop 4.0).
- Click on "Notes" and click the "New" button to make a new note. Give your list a name, paste the contents of your .txt file into the note and "Save".
- Sync your Palm. The note should now appear in the Memos on your Palm.
Then, to import your shopping list into HandyShopper:
- Launch HandyShopper on your Palm.
- Activate the pull-down menus, and select the "DB" menu. It should be near the upper right-hand corner of the screen.
- Scroll down to "Databases...". Here, you can create a new database and set the preferences for it. Click on the "New" button in the lower-left had corner of ths screen. Name your database, select the shopping list style and click "OK".
- In the preferences window, click on the "Columns" tab and check the boxes next to "Quantity" and "Units". Click "Ok". Note: Should you forget to change the preferences the list will still import, however not all the fields will be displayed. You can go back at any time to select which columns to display.
- You are now in your newly created database. Just activate your pull-down menus, select the "Misc" menu in the upper right-hand corner and scroll down to "Import from MemoPad." You will be taken to a browser window that displays all your memos. Select the shopping list you created previously and then hit "Import". Your shopping list will now be displayed in HandyShopper.
Note: You do not need to go through steps 2-4 every time you import, you can just reuse the database you have already created. First you will need to delete all the items in the old list. To do this, activate your pull-down menus, select the "Record" menu and scroll down to "Purge...". Check the box next to "Purge all items", hit "OK", then "OK" again and you are ready to import a new list into HandyShopper.
Exporting a recipe or shopping list to my iPod doesn't work. Am I doing something wrong?
Exporting your shopping list or a recipe onto an iPod requires a 3rd- or 4th-generation iPod (mini, normal, photo or video). Previous generations of iPods do not support the viewing of "Notes".
Can you tell me of any websites I can get recipes from?
If what you're looking for isn't in the online catalogue (yet), then you can import recipes from a wide variety of websites out there. A few of our favourites can be found in the Connoisseur Recipes section.
I can't import my MasterCook recipes. How do I do this?
Connoisseur is only able to import MasterCook recipes in its "export" format (usually with a file extension of .mxp). The native MasterCook file format is not open and is therefore unreadable, which creates problems when trying to import.
If you still have your copy of MasterCook (or can access one), you can export the recipes by following these steps:
- Select a cookbook in MasterCook.
- Go to the "File" menu and select "Export and Mail".
- Select a target folder to export to.
- Select the "Single File" option at the bottom of the window.
- Click on the Export button.
The resulting file can then be imported into Connoisseur.
